Halloween, 2012

Last year, we discovered PBS’s Word Girl! a great girl-hero cartoon. Every time we’d put it on for the girls, they couldn’t help but sing the opening song: “Word up, it’s Word Girl…” and Maggie couldn’t help be dance/move to the depictions. SO CUTE.
So, I took what actually ended up being a fairly easy route (aside from the fabric adhesive debacle) and suggested Zoe reconsider her rabbit costume to be Word Girl. She did. Maggie was going to be a cat, I think, and followed suit with the idea and went as Word Girl’s sidekick, Captain Huggyface (so appropriate). Cuteness ensued:

They each had at least one opportunity to wear their outfits at school and we of course hit the Central Market party on the big night. It wasn’t a common costume but we did get one call out that prompted Dave to sing (much to Zoe’s chagrin) “Word Up! It’s Word Girl”. Her face alone was worth the cost of admission. And, we couldn’t miss seeing what get-up Cooking Man would come up with:
